Celebrating a Landmark Achievement:
Sow & Reap Earns 37,405 Gold-Standard Carbon Credits

Hyderabad, August 2025 – We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey toward climate-positive agriculture. Sow & Reap Agro Pvt Ltd has become the first Indian company to earn Gold Standard carbon credits in paddy cultivation—a remarkable leap forward for sustainable farming in our country (Sowandreap).

The VARRI Project: Innovation Meets Impact

Under the banner of our VARRI initiative—a collaborative effort with Kosher Climate—we have implemented the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) method in paddy fields. This water-efficient practice replaces traditional flooding with controlled irrigation cycles, achieving multiple wins on the ground: higher yields, lower water use, reduced fertilizer required, and a notable dip in greenhouse gas emissions (EQ Mag Pro).

Scale and Scope of Impact

Over the past three years, our project has empowered 35,000+ farmers across over 1 lakh acres in several Telangana districts, including Jagtial, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Nagar Kurnool, Narayanpet, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, and Wanaparthy (EQ Mag Pro).

Transparent Tracking with DMRV

Central to this success is our proprietary Digital Measurement, Reporting & Verification (DMRV) system. Powered by blockchain, DMRV ensures end-to-end traceability—from field-level data capture to carbon credit issuance—reinforcing confidence in both environmental and farmer outcomes (EQ Mag Pro).

Voices from the Field

“This milestone stands as a testament to the collective efforts of our farmers, partners, and the Agriculture Department, Government of Telangana, whose support was instrumental in raising farmer awareness about the AWD methodology.”
Suraj Teja, Founder & CEO, Sow & Reap (Uniindia)

He further emphasises that the use of technology and transparent processes has helped forge a new income stream for farmers while advancing India’s climate action goals. With several similar projects in the pipeline, Sow & Reap aims to generate over 1 million carbon credits within the next two years (Uniindia).

Why This Matters

  • For Farmers: More resilient livelihoods through better yields and new revenue via carbon credits.
  • For Communities & Environment: Significant water savings, reduced emissions, and strengthened rural economies.
  • For the Industry: A visionary synergy of climate-tech and farming that sets a precedent for how agriculture can drive net-zero outcomes.

Looking Forward

This Gold Standard recognition is just the beginning. Through technologies like DMRV and climate-smart interventions such as AWD, Sow & Reap is charting a course toward scalable, sustainable agriculture. We’re proud to lead by example—empowering communities, regenerating nature, and shaping a truly carbon-neutral future.
